Yacht Rock Revue is one of the bands who earned a name for themselves in the music industry with their distinctive kind of music, which they called "Yacht Rock." This musical trend originated in the '70s and '80s as a subgenre of soft rock. The band has helped popularise this style, which features easygoing melodies and harmonies, through its renditions of well-known songs and their own unique compositions.
In 2007, the band's members got together to establish what would eventually become the modern pop genre of dads in white belts and polyester shirts playing punk and mellow bass. Peter Olson, Nicholas Niespodziani, Mark Cobb, Greg Lee, Mark Bencuya, Mark Dannells, and David Freeman evolved from the disbanded indie rock band Y-O-U into the original Yacht Rock Revue.
Usually compared to the likes of Bee Gees and Steely Dan, Yacht Rock Revue was initially formed during the late nineties and only ever played cover songs as the Y-O-U rock band. The band was hesitant to play any kind of music, but while performing, they stumbled across yacht rock. Their motivation to start the Yacht Rock Revue may be traced back to an original experimental performance they gave at an Atlanta club. That experiment turned out to be the very performance that would encourage them to find their own unique sound.
In 2019, they released their first self-written single, "Step," which included a blend of silky bass and a hint of Bee Gees influence. In 2020, the band released their debut studio album, "Hot Dads in Tight Jeans," which was honestly a brazen and lustrous album.
This year, the band will embark on a summer tour presented by SiriusXM. Dubbed the "The Reverse Sunset Tour," the series of concerts will take the Georgia-based band to venues across the country. The "The Doobie Bounce" hitmakers will perform at Mountain Winery Amphitheatre on September 23. Get your groove on as Yacht Rock Revue caps off summer with a bang.
